I knew running a business was hard, but I never realized it would be THIS hard. I’m sitting in bed, my husband is flipping channels, our kids are asleep and I’m pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to connect a popular online payment system to my website. The internet directives might as well be in Hieroglyphics. The technical difficulties I’m experiencing are most likely due to (my) user error. Let me preface this by saying I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m just winging it.
I’m a creative. It’s what I love to do. I. CRE-ATE. I create beautiful makeup looks. I create and develop ideas. It's just how my brain works. I know the types of services and products I’d like to offer, however I’m having a hard time figuring out the logistics behind establishing and running the financial aspect of my business. I withdrew from Economics TWICE in college - maybe three times. The professor might as well have been speaking Swahili. Economics just doesn’t make sense to me. I can do the basics…add, subtract, multiply and divide. I can create a budget and save money for a business expense. I can balance a checkbook. Howbeit, I do not have the aptness to predict the future financial proclivity of my business based off of how sales have been trending in previous quarter(s). Look y’all. Accounting just isn’t my ministry. I have to figure it out ASAP because I also do not have the budget to pay someone smarter than me in this field. I have friends who are certified accountants but I feel guilty asking them for help knowing I am (temporarily) unable to compensate them for their knowledge. Sigh…
Despite how difficult this seems right now, I LOVE the challenge. I’m an entrepreneur. I love the good, the bad and the ugly sides of running my business. I know it won’t stay like this forever. I know business has it’s peaks and valleys. I’m just having fun navigating my way through it all; triumphs and lessons included.
